Saint Mary Elizabeth Hesselblad

Fifth of thirteen children born to Augusto Roberto Hesselblad and Cajsa Pettesdotter Dag. Raised in the Reformed Church of Sweden. Due to economic hard times, the family moved regularly.
Maria emigrated to New York at age 18 to seek work to support her family back in Sweden. She studied nursing at Manhattan's Roosevelt Hospital where she worked as a nurse from 1888, and did home care for the sick and aged. Her work took her into the large Catholic population of New York; her interest in the Church grew, and she came to see it as the place closest to Christ. She converted to the Faith , receiving conditional baptism on 15 August 1902 by the Jesuit priest Giovani Hagen at Washington.
Pilgrim to Rome, Italy in late 1902, receiving Confirmation there. She returned briefly to New York, but then sailed back to Rome to start a religious life. Settled at the Carmelite House of Saint Bridget of Sweden on 25 March 1904. In 1906 she got permission from Pope Pius X to take the habit of the Brigittines (Order of the Most Holy Saviour of Saint Bridget).
She worked to restore the Order in Sweden and Italy, especially in Rome. She returned to her homeland in 1923, ministered to the poor, and tried to revitalize the Brigittine movement there. Received control of Rome's Brigittine house and church in 1931. Established Brigittine foundations in India in 1937. Saved Jews and others persecuted by the Nazis by giving them refuge in Rome; in 2004 she was recognized by Yad Vashem as one of the Righteous Among the Nations for this work.

KROATISKA NASARET....

How about "Sautéed Dandelion Greens with Garlic and Lemon"? It's a flavorful side dish that balances the bitterness of the greens with the savory garlic and bright citrus notes from the lemon.

Quote of the Week:
“The earth is at the same time mother, She is mother of all that is natural, mother of all that is human. She is mother of all, for contained in her are the seeds of all. The earth of human kind contains all moistness, all verdancy, all germinating power. It is in so many ways fruitful. All creation comes from it. Yet it forms not only the basic raw material for humankind, but also the substance of the incarnation of God’s son.” ~St. Hildegard
Spring is almost here.
Born in 1098, Hildegard was a German Benedictine abbess, writer, musician, composer, artist, philosopher, mystic, forager and medicinal plant writer and practitioner. ( and a Doctor of the Church) She didn’t want to simply visit this world. She wanted to fully be in it. Embracing the wonder and goodness of God’s creation.

LORD JESUS says :
Pride is a dangerous trait because it convinces man that he is greater than God
December 15, 2013
My dearly beloved daughter, mankind is ignorant of the Divine Laws and the Divine Will of My Father. Man is a creature of God and, as such, has not been given the Gift of Knowledge in relation to many secrets known only to the angels and saints in Heaven. Therefore, one man cannot say he knows why My Father allows certain events to take place in the world, while another man claims that he is privy to the origin of the universe.
Man is simply a servant of God, but God, because He wanted to create man in His perfect Image, granted him many gifts and talents. He never gave man the Knowledge of the Tree of Life and this was for a reason. Man destroyed his standing in God’s Eyes, when Adam and Eve separated themselves from Him, because of the sin of pride. The sin of pride continues today and is the cause of much separation from God. Pride is a dangerous trait because it convinces man that he is greater than God. Pride tempts man to interfere with God’s Laws of Divinity. This includes the belief that man has the right to decide who is given the Gift of Life and who has the right to take it away.
Pride also convinces man that he knows how the universe was created, when he is, in fact, ignorant of such a miracle. Only God has the Power to create anything. Only God can decide how much He will permit man to explore or tamper with His Creation. Yet, man believes that he knows all the answers. When man believes that he controls his own destiny, and the destiny of others, he falls into serious error because when he imitates the sin of Lucifer, he will be cast away. When man refuses to respond to his Creator, He will no longer be there to comfort him on the last day.
You must never allow pride to convince you that you know all things of this world and beyond it, for this is impossible. Instead you must listen, accept the instructions laid down in the Holy Gospels, so that you can live in peace and in accordance with My Father’s Will. For when you humble yourselves before Him, He will show you great glory and then you will understand the great mystery of His Glorious Kingdom on the last day.
Your Jesus

.
Saint Rita was born in Italy in the late 14th century, near the little city of Cascia, of parents who though advancing in age had no children; she was the fruit of their pious prayers. At the age of twelve she resolved to consecrate herself to God by the vow of chastity, but her parents required her to marry. She obeyed; and God, who perhaps wished her to serve as an example for those having to bear with violent spouses, permitted that she be joined to a man of ferocious character, who terrified the region where he lived.
.
During eighteen years she succeeded so well in pacifying him that he eventually even became submissive to the laws of God. Nonetheless, his enemies killed him; and then the pious widow had to overcome her twin sons' desire for vengeance. Again she succeeded. When the two young men died not long afterwards, she was without any further bonds to keep her in the world, and she made application to a convent of Augustinian nuns at Cascia. Never had a widow been admitted there, but Saint John the Baptist, with Saint Augustine and Saint Nicholas, who had died during the 13th century in the nearby town of Tolentino, appeared to her to answer her fervent prayers. They transported her miraculously into the convent by night, despite all the locked doors. The Sisters, finding her there in the morning, could not refuse her request any longer.
Saint Rita practiced severe mortifications, eating but once a day and taking only bread and water for food. She was a model of perfect obedience; she meditated every night, from midnight until dawn, on the Passion of Our Lord, and begged to share His sufferings. On one of these nights she felt in her forehead the pain of sharp thorns, which made there an incurable wound. The festering wound isolated her from the other Sisters, and she lived thereafter almost as a hermit in the convent. The wound was cured once for a short time, when the entire group of Sisters were to go to Rome on the occasion of a universal jubilee; on their return her wound opened again.
.
It was discovered that Saint Rita had the gift of miracles when a young girl was cured during her mother's visit to the convent, to beg the Saint's prayers for that intention. Soon many visitors were coming even from distant regions to ask her charity. She expired peacefully in May of 1456. The wound of her forehead, until then very ugly, became brilliant at the moment of her death. The shrine of Saint Rita is still a favorite pilgrimage site in Italy.
.
Eternal Father, I wish to honor St. Rita of Cascia, and I give Thee thanks for all the graces Thou hast bestowed upon her. I ask Thee to please increase grace in my soul through the merits of this saint, and I commit the end of my life to her by this special prayer, so that by virtue of Thy goodness and promise, St. Rita of Cascia might be my advocate and provide whatever is needed at that hour. Amen.

Remember that everything that happens to you, God incorporates into His love!
"A woman came to Father Pio and asked him. I have been this sick for 30 years. It is true that I can do my duties, but only at great pain.
He replied: "It is a great mercy that God has chosen you to suffer for your family.
You have two brothers who live very bad lives, and your other relatives are not much better either. You will suffer for the salvation of their souls for two more years and then you will be healed. By doing this you have saved their souls. All suffering is a mercy, even if many do not understand it." The woman went home, and indeed it happened as the father had predicted: after two years she was completely cured of her illness. Greed is a form of idolatry. JESUS said in Mark 9:41 “If anyone gives you a cup of water to drink just because you belong to Christ, then I tell you solemnly, he will most certainly not lose his reward.”
