THE EUCHARIST IN THE LIFE OF ST. FAUSTINA


A regular experience for St. Faustina was the vision of the Lord during Holy Mass. Over sixty such visions are recorded in her diary, mostly of the infant Jesus, a few occasions with the Blessed Mother, and at other times, Jesus during His passion and some of His majesty. Some dozen times she records seeing the rays of mercy as in the image of the Merciful Savior coming from the Holy Eucharist, at times covering the world (Diary of St. Faustina 420, 441, 1046). Again and again, Jesus told St. Faustina that He had chosen her period in history to pour out His mercy upon mankind, in preparation for His Second Coming. Thus, she saw that her state of “living host” was a pure, unmerited gift of Divine Mercy. IN AN INDIFFERENT PERSON “Behold, the treasures of grace that flow down upon souls, but not all souls know how to take advantage of my generosity.” (Diary 1687) "It pains Me very much when religious souls receive the Sacrament of Love merely out of habit, as if they did not distinguish this food. I find neither faith nor love in their hearts. I go to such souls with great reluctance. It would be better if they did not receive Me" (Diary 1288) None of it happens if our attitude isn't right. "In a false person," writes St. Thomas Aquinas, "the sacrament does not produce any effect." One is false if in one's heart, one does not desire this union and does not even try to remove every obstacle to it. Christ therefore does not remain in him or her; neither does he or she in Christ. What I need to do is to acknowledge my unworthiness to receive such a gift, and prepare my heart to enter communion with Him, trusting in HIs merciful love for me, saying, "Lord, I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and I shall be healed." Matthew 8:8 "Oh, how painful it is to Me that souls so seldom unite themselves to Me in Holy Communion. I wait for souls, and they are indifferent toward Me. I love them tenderly and sincerely, and they distrust Me. I want to lavish My graces on them, and they do not want to accept them. They treat Me as a dead object, whereas My Heart is full of love and mercy. "(Diary 1447) Jesus' words to Saint Faustina: "I desire to unite Myself with human souls... When I come to a human heart in Holy Communion, My hand are full of all kinds of graces which I want to give to the soul. But souls do not even pay any attention to Me; they leave Me to Myself and busy themselves with other things. Oh; how sad I am that souls do not recognize Love!" (Diary 1385) THE EUCHARIST IS ALIVE Jesus is very clear:“Anyone who loves Me will obey My teaching. My Father will love them, and We will come to them and make Our home with them." John 14:23 The words used," the Body of Christ" by the celebrant may leave an impression that the Eucharist is not alive, yet it's not a wafer; it's not bread. It's a real Person and He's alive. Should this not demand more respect and reverence for the Eucharist at the time of receiving it? Receiving Him with this awareness, makes us more alive and we will agree with St. Paul: "I no longer live, but Christ lives in me." Galatians 2:20 Once after Holy Communion, St. Faustina heard these words: You are our dwelling place. At that moment, I felt in my soul the presence of the Holy Trinity, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. (451) Her union with the Lord was, in His words, as a bride: "Here, I am entirely yours, soul, body and divinity as Your Bridegroom. You know what love demands, one thing only: reciprocity." (Diary 1770) What she experienced during Holy Communion was a complete union with the Holy Trinity: "At that moment, I was drawn into the bosom of the Most Holy Trinity, and I was immersed in the love of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.” (Diary 1670, 1121, 1129) “The most solemn moment of my life is the moment when I receive Holy Communion and for every Holy Communion I give thanks to the Most Holy Trinity”. (Diary 1804) After receiving Communion, many of the saints would spend and extended time of thanksgiving during which they would receive great insights and often go into ecstasy. St. Padre Pio, who claimed to have received stigmata while making his thanksgiving after Communion, wrote: "When Mass was over I remained with Jesus in thanksgiving. Oh how sweet was the colloquy with paradise that morning! It was such that, although I want to tell you all about it, I cannot. ... The heart of Jesus and my own — allow me to use the expression — were fused. No longer were two hearts beating but only one. My own heart had disappeared, as a drop of water is lost in the ocean. Jesus was its paradise, its king. My joy was so intense and deep that I could bear it no more and tears of happiness poured down my cheeks." Thomas was so moved with reverence, he said, “My Lord and my God!” John 20:28 What a miracle we experience today in the Holy Eucharist! “Secretary of My most profound mystery, know that yours is an exclusive intimacy with Me. Your task is to write down everything that I make known to you about My mercy, for the benefit of those who by reading these things will be comforted in their souls and will have the courage to approach Me. I therefore want you to devote all your free moments to writing” (Diary, 1693). In Response, In one minute or less, all you do is simply say a small heart-to-heart prayer for yourself and the person who sent you this. God does not ask a great deal from you nor does He call you to obtain lengthy messages. He only asks for your friendship, your love, your attention from time to time and a word to Him showing Him that you have not forgotten Him. Prayer of Forgiveness Forgive (......... and I) our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save (......... and I) from the time of trial, and deliver us from evil. Prayer of Love My Dear Father, Who is in heaven, I believe in you; I adore you I trust in you; I love you. My Dear Jesus, I believe in you; I adore you I trust in you; I love you. Ako tražiš užitak, čak i dopušten, uvijek ćeš biti razočaran. Užitak je dašak vjetra. Užitak je senzualan. Pažnja, nisam rekao seksualan! Postoji užitak slušanja glazbe, gledanja lijepog pogleda, mirisanja cvijeća, jedenja špageta, dobre šetnje, grljenja ljubljene osobe. Postoji mnogo vrsta užitaka. Vrijeme užitka ne traje puno, traje dok je predmet užitka prisutan osjetilima. Drugim riječima, osjećaj užitka dolazi izvana. Radost, međutim, ne dolazi od materije, već od duha koji kuša nadnaravni svijet. Zato je Petar, nakon što je vidio i kušao prisutnost Isusa Krista na brdu Tabor, uzviknuo: „Dobro nam je ovdje biti, Gospodine; napravimo tri sjenice… i ostanimo ovdje zauvijek!“. Po tom shvaćamo da je radost koja izvire iz kušanja nadnaravnog svijeta iznad svakog užitka koji se može kušati u senzualnom svijetu. Danas Isus Krist govori nama koji želimo ostati u njegovoj ljubavi čuvajući njegove zapovijedi: „To sam vam govorio da moja radost bude u vama i da vaša radost bude potpuna!“ Pitam se: ako je Isus potpuna radost, zašto onda ljudi bježe od Crkve? Prvo, zato što je ljudima draži užitak od radosti. Drugo, zato što je mnogim kršćanima, koji kažu da su susreli Isusa, lice uvijek tužno. Stoga nemoj biti kao onaj svećenik koji je svoju homiliju započeo riječima: „Vjernici, danas ću vam govoriti o kršćanskoj radosti!“ A to je rekao pogrebna lica. Ako tražiš užitak, čak i dopušten, uvijek ćeš biti razočaran. Užitak je dašak vjetra. Užitak je senzualan. Pažnja, nisam rekao seksualan! Postoji užitak slušanja glazbe, gledanja lijepog pogleda, mirisanja cvijeća, jedenja špageta, dobre šetnje, grljenja ljubljene osobe. Postoji mnogo vrsta užitaka. Vrijeme užitka ne traje puno, traje dok je predmet užitka prisutan osjetilima. Drugim riječima, osjećaj užitka dolazi izvana. Radost, međutim, ne dolazi od materije, već od duha koji kuša nadnaravni svijet. Zato je Petar, nakon što je vidio i kušao prisutnost Isusa Krista na brdu Tabor, uzviknuo: „Dobro nam je ovdje biti, Gospodine; napravimo tri sjenice… i ostanimo ovdje zauvijek!“. Po tom shvaćamo da je radost koja izvire iz kušanja nadnaravnog svijeta iznad svakog užitka koji se može kušati u senzualnom svijetu. Danas Isus Krist govori nama koji želimo ostati u njegovoj ljubavi čuvajući njegove zapovijedi: „To sam vam govorio da moja radost bude u vama i da vaša radost bude potpuna!“ Pitam se: ako je Isus potpuna radost, zašto onda ljudi bježe od Crkve? Prvo, zato što je ljudima draži užitak od radosti. Drugo, zato što je mnogim kršćanima, koji kažu da su susreli Isusa, lice uvijek tužno. Stoga nemoj biti kao onaj svećenik koji je svoju homiliju započeo riječima: „Vjernici, danas ću vam govoriti o kršćanskoj radosti!“ A to je rekao pogrebna lica.
